How contracts for difference work

Written by Alex Nicholas

A CFD (contract for difference) is a leveraged contract between you and ACG Markets. It's traded over the counter, not on an exchange.

  1. You buy if you expect the price of the underlying asset to rise, or sell if you expect it to fall.

  2. You pay a margin, which is a fraction of the position's full value.

  3. When you close the trade, your profit or loss is the difference between the opening and closing prices, multiplied by your trade size.

At ACG Markets, the underlying assets are forex pairs, indices, metals and commodities.

Risk warning: CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. Only trade with money you can afford to lose.
