Orders available on MT5 include:

  • Market order: buy or sell straight away at the current price.

  • Buy Limit: buy if the price falls to a level you set.

  • Sell Limit: sell if the price rises to a level you set.

  • Buy Stop: buy if the price rises to a level you set.

  • Sell Stop: sell if the price falls to a level you set.

  • Buy Stop Limit and Sell Stop Limit: when the price reaches your stop level, a limit order is placed at a second price you choose.

  • Stop Loss: closes a position automatically to limit a loss.

  • Take Profit: closes a position automatically at a profit level you set.

  • Trailing Stop: moves your Stop Loss with the price as a trade moves in your favour. It runs in your MT5 platform, so it only moves while MT5 is open.

The order types available can vary by instrument. You'll find them in the instrument's Specification in MT5. See 'How do I place a pending order?'

A Stop Loss is not guaranteed. In fast markets, during news or when prices gap, your order may be filled at the next available price. Your loss can then be larger than you planned.

Risk warning: CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. Only trade with money you can afford to lose.
